Interlibrary Loan

E-mail Print

Our library co-operates with other greek universities, technical institutes, research organisations, etc in order to have access to all library collections of books, journals, articles, etc.

The users of the library who own a Library Card can apply for an interlibrary loan of up to 5 books, journals, articles, etc according to the regulations of the lender-librar(ies). The user is guided through a search of the material he / she wishes to have access to through the Union Catalogue of Academic Libraries, the OPAC catalogues of the universities or any other search engine in order to locate the physical location and availability of the material he / she wishes to borrow.

If the status of the material is set to “available”, an interlibrary loan request is forwarded by the librarian on behalf of the user and the lender-library answers whether the book, etc is available for interlibrary loan. If this is the case the material is borrowed by the lending-library on behalf of the user and it is sent via mail, courier or e-mail (for electronic articles).

The final user gets hold of the loan material and has the obligation to return it to the lending-library according to interlibrary loan slip date, so it can be forwarded back to the lender-library in time for the next loan. The photocopied articles are not returned to the lender libraries.
